Frank Patania Junior Coral and Sterling Cuff

Frank Patania Junior Coral and Sterling Cuff

A remarkable example of mid-century Southwestern design, this sterling silver cuff by Frank Patania Jr. embodies the master silversmith’s unmistakable architectural approach to jewelry. Created c. 1960, the bracelet showcases five exceptional pieces of natural Mediterranean coral, each displaying a rare, rich red color that immediately commands attention against the bright sterling silver setting.

The coral featured in this cuff carries a special family provenance. The stones were sourced from our family's reserve of Mediterranean coral, originally acquired by Frank Patania Sr. in Torre del Greco, Italy, during the mid-1950s. Known for producing some of the world's finest coral, Torre del Greco has long been revered for its deep, saturated reds and superior quality. Today, coral of this caliber and provenance is increasingly difficult to find, making this bracelet not only a beautiful work of art but also an important piece of Patania history.

The design itself is a testament to Frank Jr.'s mastery of form and structure. Five bezel-set coral cabochons are carefully arranged across a dramatic oxidized silver channel, creating a striking contrast of light and shadow. Between each stone, raised sterling silver elements add rhythm, dimension, and balance to the composition. The result is a cuff that feels both bold and refined, an architectural landscape rendered in silver and coral.

Frank Jr. has been celebrated for his meticulous craftsmanship, and every detail of this bracelet reflects that dedication. The precise placement of each element, the crisp geometric forms, and the thoughtful use of depth create a piece that reveals something new from every angle. It is a design that feels distinctly modern even decades after its creation, illustrating why Frank Patania Jr. remains one of the most influential figures in American jewelry design.

Equally at home in a serious collection or worn as a statement piece, this cuff captures the artistic vision, innovation, and technical excellence that defined the Patania legacy. Its combination of historic Mediterranean coral, exceptional craftsmanship, and iconic architectural styling makes it a truly collectible example of Frank Patania Jr.'s work.
